1. A #SpecialHoliday was declared to commemorate Kuala Lumpur FC (KL City) winning the Malaysia Cup on Tuesday, according to the Federal Territories Minister on yesterday
2. Many Malaysian employers are undoubtedly asking if they are required to comply.
3. When it comes to special holidays, the first thing you should do is look over the notice to see which Acts and clauses are being applied.
4. Employment Act 1955:
👉 Section 60D(1)(a) states - Each employee is entitled to a minimum of 11 days of Public Holiday in a year
👉 Section 60D(1)(b) states - Employees are also entitled to any day appointed as a public holiday for that particular year under section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951
5. If you read the statement made by the Federal Minister Dato' Seri Shahidan yesterday, you'll see that it was made under Section 9(2) of the Public Holidays Act 1951.
6. To put it simply:
👉 This special holiday is not compulsory, Employers are not required to observe
👉 Employers in Kuala Lumpur have the discretion to decide if they want to take the holiday tomorrow
7. Of course, you can't rule out the chance that some of the companies may still give staff a holiday to recharge and relax as a way of saying "thank you" for their hard work.
👉 A rest is only the first step of a longer journey ahead

6. 白话文:这个特别假期,并非强制性的。吉隆坡的雇主明天要不要放假,公司酌情定夺
7. 当然,不排除公司也会因为要感谢辛勤工作的员工,给予假期让员工好好充电休息
