4. 废物管理公司对外报告优良业绩的首要“秘诀”就是避免记录当前的成本、费用或将其递延至未来期间（以虚增当期盈利）。

5. 废物管理公司的造假手段并不高明，之所以屡屡得逞，主要是其造假行为得到为之审计的安达信会计师事务所的配合和默许。

6. 废物管理公司在会计丑闻后继续运营，他们在公司获得新的首席执行官后，通过购买新技术、跟上安全标准和操作规范，帮助企业重新站起来，有了一个新的开始，从而重获成功。

1. American Waste Management Inc., the world's largest waste disposal company, had inflated its profits by $1.7 billion in 1998

2. When the fraud was announced, its market value plummeted by $6 billion, investors and the vast majority of employees suffered huge losses, the share price fell from $35 to $22 per share, and 1,500 of the 1,700 employees at the original headquarters were fired

3. Those fraudsters stole thousands of dollars from Waste Management Inc., paying themselves incentives and bonuses based on false results and cashing in on stock options based on erroneous results

4. The primary "secret" of waste management Inc. to report good results externally is to avoid recording current costs and expenses or deferring them to future periods (inflating current earnings).

5. Waste management Inc. is not clever at falsifying their accounts, and the main reason for their success is the cooperation and acquiescence of Arthur Andersen, the firm that audits them.

6. Waste Management Inc. continues to operate after the accounting scandal, they were able to get back to success after the company received a new CEO by buying new technology, keeping up with safety standards and operating practices that helped the business to get back on its feet and have a fresh start.
